The Bluebirds endured a torrid 2024/25 season, which ultimately resulted in relegation to League One.

Omer Riza was in charge of the bulk of the campaign, with owner Vincent Tan turning to Ramsey for the final few games in a desperate final roll of the dice, but it wasn’t enough as Cardiff ultimately ended up bottom of the Championship.

Cardiff City managerial latest as Aaron Ramsey keen on vacancy

Now, attention has turned to bringing in a new boss ahead of next season, and several names have been linked with the vacancy, including Nathan Jones, but he has opted to stay with Charlton Athletic.

And, in a fresh update, journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that Ramsey is open to taking his first managerial job on a long-term basis with his boyhood club.

But, he also explained that it’s entirely dependent on being able to bring in his own backroom team, with the 34-year-old said to want to add one or two ‘senior’ coaches. However, it’s unclear whether he will be allowed to do so, which could scupper the appointment.

So, Ramsey is in an uncertain position, and it has been claimed that he has an offer from Mexican side Pumas to continue his playing career on the other side of the world.

Cardiff City must sort managerial situation quickly

This has been a messy process by Cardiff, which is not what the club needed after their embarrassing relegation to the third tier.

If Ramsey is the man they want, he should be allowed to bring in his own backroom team, and he should be given all the support he needs to ensure he can be successful.

Whether he is the right man is up for debate, but Cardiff must act swiftly as a huge summer awaits, and they don’t look as though they have made enough progress at all.

Missing out on Jones was a disappointment, yet it was always going to be hard to prise him from Charlton after they won promotion, but you would’ve expected the Bluebirds to have a list of options that they were working on.
