Manchester United’s pursuit of Khephren Thuram is under threat from Liverpool. The Red Devils are enjoying a resurgent run under caretaker manager Michael Carrick, who has ignited hopes of a top-four finish since taking charge in January.
United were struggling to string together victories under former head coach Ruben Amorim, who left his position at the start of the year. Meanwhile, the English manager took over at Old Trafford until the end of the season and has registered six wins and one draw in his first seven games.
The Red Devils are now third in the Premier League table after 28 games, so the club’s pursuit of Champions League qualification is right on track. The English giants are subsequently preparing for a blockbuster summer, with the midfield is likely to be at the centre of their plans.
A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person suggests that United have identified Thuram as an option to strengthen the position ahead of the new season.
United are putting together succession plans for Casemiro, who is in the final four months of his contract. The Brazilian has been a key figure under Carrick but has already announced that he will leave Old Trafford at the end of this season.
The Red Devils are looking for a suitable candidate to fill Casemiro’s boots and remain linked with several Premier League midfielders. However, the English giants are also long-term admirers of Thuram and have been monitoring him since his Nice days.
The French midfielder left the Ligue 1 club in 2024 to move to Juventus and is now an established face in Turin. This season, Thuram has registered two goals and four assists from 35 games across competitions for the Serie A giants.

Like Casemiro, Thuram has the ability to shield his defence as well as contribute in the final third, while excelling in a box-to-box role or as a defensive midfielder. While United have been joined by Liverpool in the race for the 24 year old, it was previously believed that the Bianconeri are keen to tie the player down to a new deal.
That has not stopped the rumour mill from turning, and it now appears that the Merseyside club have stepped up their efforts to secure the Frenchman.
According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are preparing a €45 million package to win the race for Thuram this summer. The report states: “Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal are among the Premier League sides assessing Thuram as a potential target.”
“Liverpool are believed to be particularly interested in adding more physical presence and ball-winning ability to their midfield, with suggestions that a package worth around €45 million plus bonuses could be explored.”
The report adds that United have identified the Frenchman as Casemiro’s heir. Juventus maintain that Thuram, who is under contract until 2029, is not for sale, but an offer of €65-75 million could be enough to force a change of heart.
Replacing Casemiro will be no mean feat, and United will have to put in a lot of planning and effort to get this right. INEOS were spot on with their recruitment last summer and they have to repeat the trick this year if they are to take the Red Devils back to their heyday.
