Celtic’s Kieran Tierney scored an injury time screamer to secure Scotland’s qualification for the World Cup in 2026. The fullback was a second half substitute coming on at right back, replacing Aaron Hickey.
With the score sitting at 2-2 in injury time, KT launched a curling left footed effort into the corner, leaving Kasper Schmeichel with no chance. Minutes later, Kenny McLean sealed the match by clipping a long range strike over the Celtic No.1.
Scotland opened the scoring in the first three minutes after a wonder strike from Scott McTominay. Denmark hit back from the spot after VAR awarded a penalty against Andy Robertson.
Scotland thought they’d won it with over ten to play but Denmark again struck back to silence Hampden. Despite the two setbacks, Scotland endeavoured and were rewarded with two excellent strikes. There’s something to be said in securing qualification to a World Cup with some incredible goals and Scotland did that.
Tony Ralston was an unused sub but there’s a number of ex-Celts in and around the Scotland squad. You do also wonder if Celtic captain Callum McGregor would be amenable to opening the door to an international return come next summer, similar to Scott Brown’s international return.
Congratulations to Steve Clarke and the rest of the Scotland team for sealing their place in the history books.
