Randal Kolo Muani scored against his former club as Tottenham beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at Deutsche Bank Park in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Already out of the Champions League heading into the game, Eintracht Frankfurt had only pride to play for, hoping to end a six-game winless streak across all competitions.
Tottenham, meanwhile, knew a win would secure their place in the round of 16 and came out looking to take control early.
Spurs had the ball in the net after just four minutes, but Xavi Simons’ effort was ruled out after Destiny Udogie was adjudged to be offside in the build-up.
The visitors continued to press and came close twice around the half-hour mark. Wilson Odobert hit the post, and shortly afterwards, Simons saw a close-range effort kept out, as a mistake from Eintracht goalkeeper Kauã Santos almost proved costly.
Frankfurt rarely threatened, but almost broke the deadlock out of nowhere just before halftime when Hugo Larsson latched onto a lofted pass and smashed a shot off the crossbar.
The teams went into the break on even terms, but Spurs needed only a few minutes after the restart to take the lead. Xavi Simons delivered a cross that Cristian Romero headed across goal to Kolo Muani, who only had to tap the ball over the line.
Dominik Solanke effectively secured Spurs' place in the last 16 when he made it 2-0 in the 77th minute, while Eintracht ended their Champions League campaign with a disappointing four points from eight matches.
