Shortly before the Champions League clash against Real Madrid, Vincent Kompany has provided clarity on key personnel issues

The situation at FC Bayern continues to ease ahead of the quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid. Coach Vincent Kompany has now made a clear statement regarding Serge Gnabry in particular – and it is unambiguous

„Yes, he’s fit,“ explained the Belgian at the pre-match press conference. The attacking player had to sit out the match against FC St. Pauli (5:0) due to knee problems. However, Gnabry now appears to be fully fit again in time for the top match

When asked whether the international would be able to last 90 minutes, Kompany replied clearly: „He can play 90 minutes, or 120 if he has to. Of course, we didn’t want to take any risks with him. He has prepared for this game and is physically ready.“

This is important news for Bayern, especially in view of the recent tense personnel situation in attack. Kompany also made it clear that he trusts his entire squad: „Every player who is there can play the full game.“

Positive development for Musiala

There are also cautiously optimistic signs for Jamal Musiala, whose form is on the up again following his injury

„Everything is going very positively at the moment. Everything is going in a good direction. I’m not going to say anything about tomorrow,“ explained Kompany

Although the coach did not want to commit himself to a specific match, he emphasized the 23-year-old’s progress: „Our feeling is that things are going in a good direction now and that we will eventually have the Jamal we all want to see. But the feelings and conversations are so much better than they were two months ago.“

Despite not yet being fully fit, Musiala is already delivering again: „But he’s already scoring goals and making assists.“

The question of personnel in attacking midfield therefore remains exciting – but one thing is clear: the options for Kompany have become significantly greater again ahead of the Real clash with Gnabry.
