Mohammed Kudus looks set to miss Leeds United’s relegation six-pointer at Tottenham on 11 May after a fresh injury setback.

The club said in a statement that the Ghana forward has suffered a setback in his return from a significant quadriceps injury, and now needs further specialist review with surgery a possibility.

Kudus was a menace in October’s 2-1 win at Elland Road, teeing up Mathys Tel for the opener before profiting from a Gabriel Gudmundsson slip to score the winner.

He sustained the quad injury in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland on 4 January and has not featured since. Tottenham have not won a Premier League match without their £55million summer signing, leaving them one point above the relegation zone with seven games to play.

A return after the March international break had been pencilled in, which would have boosted new head coach Roberto De Zerbi. Despite the lay-off, Kudus remains Spurs’ leading creator with five league assists and has scored twice.

That meeting is the third-from-last fixture of the campaign and could become season-defining for either side, with both currently fighting relegation.

Leeds have their own fitness concerns, with Anton Stach and Joe Rodon suffering ankle ligament injuries at West Ham last weekend. The pair are expected to be out through April, and barring setbacks will target a return for mid-May. The Whites host Burnley and Wolves before travelling to North London.
