FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit has shared their thoughts on the potential return of Kyle Walker to Bramall Lane

Sheffield United look set for another year in the Championship next season, with the Blades staying well clear of the relegation zone, as the play-off places look to elude them this time around.

It certainly hasn't been the campaign Sheffield United were hoping for after their play-off final defeat to Sunderland less than a year ago.

Chris Wilder was dismissed following the defeat at Wembley, and was replaced by Spanish boss Ruben Selles, whose six sorry games in charge all ended in defeat, before the Blades' hierarchy were left with their tails between their legs as they returned to Wilder.

The Sheffield native has helped the club stay clear of the threat of relegation, with a place in the play-offs, at one stage looking like a real possibility.

Whilst they can still break into the top six, a sublime run of form will be needed to stand a chance, as another year in the second tier beckons in South Yorkshire.

With that in mind, talks over potential arrivals at Bramall Lane have already begun, with a former high-profile player having already stated his desire to return to his boyhood club before the end of his career, sparking rumours of a reunion as early as this summer.

Burnley right-back Kyle Walker has recently stated his desire to return to his boyhood club, Sheffield United, before the end of his career on The Overlap podcast.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City defender has had an extremely decorated career since leaving the Blades, winning six Premier League titles, four League Cups, two FA Cups, one Champions League, over 400 top-flight appearances, and 96 England caps.

The 35-year-old has recently called time on international football, and now with Burnley, hopes to avoid relegation to the Championship with the Clarets.

Beginning his professional career with the Blades, he has opened up about a potential return to the club, sparking rumours that a move to Bramall Lane could happen as early as this summer, despite his deal at Turf Moor lasting until the summer of 2027.

Football League World's Sheffield United fan pundit, Jimmy, has provided their thoughts on the potential signing of Walker, following the Englishman's latest remarks.

Jimmy said, "I think he will return to Sheffield United, and I think there's a chance he returns this summer rather than when his Burnley contract expires in 2027.

"They're obviously coming down to the Championship, they'll be looking to offload some of the higher earners. I think he will possibly take a wage cut to come back to Sheffield United.

"There's a chance that Femi Seriki leaves in the summer as well, which is a blow to us because he's a great young player. But now we're losing parachutes, we need to get rid of some [players]. We need to cash in on some of our assets to offset the losses that we're going to see. So it kind of fits, and I think class is permanent.

"I'm not saying he won't have lost a yard because of his age, but we've seen players like Paul McGrath and Stuart McCall over the years who were top-level players.

"Class is permanent, as I say. You can play a little bit longer if you've been that good.

"We also need leaders on the side, and who better than someone who has done it all in the game? [He is] the best right-back England has ever produced."

Kyle Walker has had an exceptional career, and his experience could prove to be vital for Chris Wilder and Sheffield United

Whether a return to Sheffield United happens this summer or not, there is no doubting Walker's ability.

His athleticism has been a key component of his game over the years, making him a key component in City's back line for so many years under Pep Guardiola.

Although that has diminished over the years, his experience and technical ability would be second to none in the second tier, and is certainly something that Wilder could make use of should a deal happen.

Still a regular with Burnley in the Premier League, Walker's time at the pinnacle of football looks to be over, but his professional career doesn't seem to be just yet, with a return to the place where it all began well and truly on the cards.
