Kylian Mbappé became the World Cup’s all-time top scorer after scoring twice in France’s third-place play-off defeat to England on Saturday at the 2026 tournament. The 27-year-old France captain moved past Lionel Messi.

His brace took him to 21 and 22 World Cup goals. According to Opta, he is the first player to reach 10 in a single edition since Germany’s Gerd Müller in 1970.
