Kylian Mbappé missed Alvaro Arbeloa’s first Real Madrid training session on Tuesday.
Arbeloa, who had led the reserves since June 2025, has taken charge of the first team following Xabi Alonso’s departure. According to L'Équipe, the club views Mbappé’s absence as logical and he should be rested for the Copa del Rey tie at Albacete on Wednesday night.
Mbappé had been ruled out for three weeks on 31 December with a left knee sprain, but he returned ahead of schedule.
The France captain came on in the 76th minute of Sunday’s Clasico, which Madrid lost 2-3 in the Spanish Super Cup final.
After the game, Alonso said Mbappé was not ready to start given the expected intensity of the match. He was unable to turn the contest despite a late red card shown to Frenkie de Jong.
