Celtic are flying high in Scotland as they set sights on a ‘domestic treble’ to maintain their supremacy over bitter rivals Rangers. The Hoops have improved their form in Europe under Brendan Rodgers, and therefore, should grab a win against Young Boys on Wednesday night to be in contention for the knockout phase playoffs.

While the Bhoys have secured 9 points from 6 outings, the Swiss side are rock-bottom in the standings with no win and the worst goal difference. Celtic have not lost a game at home in all competitions, and the domination must continue given the visitors’ winless record in Scotland (D1 L2) including a 1-0 second-leg defeat at Celtic Park in the 1993-94 Uefa Cup.

Defence

Veteran Kasper Schmeichel has been Joe Hart’s like-for-like replacement between the sticks as the gaffer has relied on him across tournaments ahead of Viljami Sinisalo and Scott Bain.

Although the Hoops have ample depth and quality across the backline, Rodgers is expected to stick with his preferred options for this midweek encounter. Alistair Johnston should feature from the right over Anthony Ralston, also, left fullback Greg Taylor offers more stability than Alex Valle even though the young Barcelona loanee has impressed in limited opportunities. Liam Scales has lost his place to Auston Trusty who has cemented his starting status in deep defence alongside fellow countryman Cameron Carter-Vickers. Carter-Vickers remains key with his composure and ball-playing ability from the heart of the backline.

Midfield

Skipper Callum McGregor scored a long-range stunner against Kilmarnock over the weekend. He is irreplaceable for his expertise as a deep-lying playmaker as his presence at the base of a three-man midfield frees up space for the ‘number 8s’ to contribute frequently in the attacking third. Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo have impressed in box-to-box roles, however, the flair and chemistry of Reo Hatate and Arne Engels should earn them first-team spots ahead of Bernardo and McCowan.

Attack

Despite James Forrest’s injury absence, the Celts are well-equipped across the frontline. Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn have recovered from minor knocks and the Swiss outfit would find it difficult to contain the pair down the flanks. Despite interest from Rennes, Kyogo Furuhashi must spearhead the attack having shown his poaching traits over the years. Adam Idah, Yang Hyun-jun and Luis Palma could be introduced as second-half substitutes considering their sporadic involvement so far this season.
