LAFC, LD Alajuelense clash in Champions Cup Round of 16

MIAMI – The 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup continues with Los Angeles FC welcoming LD Alajuelense in the First Leg of their Round of 16 series on Tuesday at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA.

LD Alajuelense, the current Central American Cup champions, will be playing their seventh Round of 16, having reached the next stage of the tournament on two previous occasions during the 2002 and 2002/03 editions.

Kicking off its participation in the 2026 edition, LD Alajuelense will count with key players that helped the club win a third consecutive Concacaf Central American Cup like Ronaldo Cisneros and Ronald Matarrita.

LAFC clinched its ticket to the Round of 16 after a 7-1 aggregate score against Real España. They will be playing their fourth Round of 16 series, advancing on each previous occasion.

Players like Heung-Min Son and Denis Bouanga, who were two of the game changers in Round One for the California team, will be expected to be a factor once again for the MLS side.

Liga Deportiva Alajuelense and Los Angeles FC will meet for the third time in the Concacaf Champions Cup, with each side earning one win during the group stage.
