LaLiga has refused to reschedule Valencia v Celta on five April, despite Celta’s attempts to ease preparation for their Europa League quarter-final. According to Superdeporte, the fixture will remain in its original slot.
The club had pushed for a switch, with the first leg against Freiburg on nine April, only four days after their trip to Mestalla. The stance has not gone down well in Vigo.
Head coach Claudio Giráldez said the club asked repeatedly for a change but were refused. He hinted at frustration, accepting his side must compete at Mestalla with almost no respite.
The tight turnaround leaves little time to recover, prepare and adjust workloads. Giráldez will need to manage minutes and rotations, which could affect performances in both competitions.
Valencia, meanwhile, are focused on league objectives, prioritising points and stability. The possibility that Celta split focus between LaLiga and Europe might be a factor, and the decision again raises questions about calendar flexibility at crucial stages of the season.
