The brother of Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has said he was initially ‘skeptical’ about the goalkeeper’s transfer to Old Trafford.
Lammens joined Manchester United on transfer deadline day from Royal Antwerp, in a deal worth around £18m. The Belgian has signed as a replacement for Andre Onana, but was an unused substitute against Manchester City at the weekend.
Manchester United beat competition from Galatasaray to sign Lammens this summer and the goalkeeper’s brother has said he favoured the Turkish champions.
Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad, Lammen’s brother, Tom, said he felt Galatasaray was a better step for the 23-year-old’s development.
“There’s a lot of quality, you play for trophies there [Gala], and Senne could perhaps immediately make his mark in the Champions League,” Tom said.
“I was initially sceptical about a move to United, because many players there had already succumbed to the pressure and couldn’t reach their full potential.
“But ultimately, it was Senne who had to make the decision. United gave him the best feeling. Partly because Tony Coton, United’s goalkeeping scout, had been following him for almost a year and was very convinced of his qualities.
“It would also be great if the club could return to its former glory and if Senne could contribute to that.”
