Queens Park Rangers are in need of improvement.

Going into this season, there was quiet optimism from QPR fans as Marti Cifuentes was given a full pre-season to sign some players and establish an identity at the club. However, they have not enjoyed the start that they would have hoped for.

From their first nine Championship games, they picked up just one win, which came away to Luton Town. As a result, they currently sit towards the bottom end of the table.

Some of the new signings have seemingly struggled to adapt, and with Ilias Chair missing the first seven league games, they were not playing at their full potential.

QPR will be demanding a resurgence in form sooner rather than later, as they certainly have the players to make their mark in the Championship, but they are yet to do so, so far.

January will come around quickly, and the Hoops will be hoping that they are some distance away from the bottom three by then. Whether or not they are, they will have a couple of big decisions to make regarding the current squad, to ensure that they are in the best position possible to avoid relegation.

With that in mind, Football League World looks at four scenarios that would be very ideal for QPR this January.

Jake Clarke-Salter stays

Jake Clarke-Salter has become one of the first names on the team sheet at Loftus Road but he sadly picked up an injury that could see him miss a few weeks of action.

The club received a huge boost last week though as the defender signed a new long-term contract.

However, that may not deter clubs keeping tabs on him ahead of January. In the summer, Wolves were said to be keen on signing the defender as a Max Kilman replacement, but nothing materialised.

Considering the start that Wolves have had to the season, they may become desperate for defensive reinforcements in January, which could lead them to look at a Clarke-Salter. A new contract does not mean he can not leave the club in January,

While QPR would likely receive a healthy sum of money for the player, it is absolutely vital that they keep hold of Clarke-Salter until at least the end of the season. His departure would cause disruption and mean that QPR would have to go out and find a competent replacement.

Rayan Kolli departs on loan

Rayan Kolli started QPR's first game of the season and even grabbed an assist but since then he has barely been seen and appears out of Cifuentes' first-team plans.

The 19-year-old clearly has a lot of potential, so instead of sitting out of the squad, it would be beneficial for the forward to go out on loan in January.

He has the ability to perform in the EFL, so perhaps a move to League One or League Two would do him the world of good to ensure that he is developing at the right pace.

Will Lankshear signs

Adding another striker to the ranks would certainly be beneficial for QPR as summer signing Zan Celar is taking time to adjust to life in the Championship. Michael Frey has bagged a few goals this season but more firepower is needed so the West Londoners should look at the loan market this January.

Will Lankshear could be the perfect signing for the Hoops, as he is arguably one of the most promising young strikers in the Premier League. The striker has been on the books at Tottenham for the last two years and has scored plenty of goals at U21 level.

The last few weeks have seen Lankshear gain more first-team experience, and he even made his senior debut in the Europa League, as Spurs won 2-1 away in Hungary.

A loan move in January could be the natural next step. The striker would be a great fit for many Championship clubs, but QPR should do all that they can to secure his services and provide competition for Frey.

The move would suit Spurs and Lankshear, as he would not have to relocate.

Ilias Chair stays

Ilias Chair is back in the QPR squad after he spent the first few weeks of the season on the sidelines. The hope will be that his return can spark a fire in the belly and help them find some consistency.

It is absolutely crucial that, in January, they fend off any interest that may come his way, as on his day he is by far the Hoops' best player. He provides great creativity and is not afraid to go for goal from any angle.

Chair's contract expires at the end of the season, but there is an option for a further year, so it would be a huge relief for QPR if they could tie him down to a fresh, new contract. But the priority has to be to keep him.
