Joan Laporta has been re-elected Barcelona president in a landslide over Víctor Font, securing a third term through 2031. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Laporta took 32,934 votes, 68.18 percent, to Font’s 29.78 percent.

Members chose continuity, in line with precedent that no sitting president has lost re-election. If he completes this term, Laporta will have 17 years in charge, second only to Josep Lluís Núñez.

The feel-good factor around Hansi Flick’s side, the return to the stadium and Laporta’s personality outweighed accusations of outdated management and malpractice from Font and other hopefuls. Font’s plan for a more modern, professional and less personalist Barça again fell short, and he drew fewer votes than in 2021.

After the 5-2 win over Sevilla, several players, including Pedri and Raphinha, voted then bounced with the president, a potent yet debatable image during an election. Laporta dominated the day, greeting members tirelessly and appearing far earlier than a more restrained Font.

Only Núñez in 1997, with 76.3 percent, recorded a higher share. Turnout was 42.34 percent, and the continuing ban on postal and online voting was noticeable.

Celebrations in Laporta’s Camp Nou base began once a 21:00 poll signalled a decisive outcome, before moving to Luz de Gas. From the first of July he resumes office for five more years, with the Camp Nou rebuild his defining project.
