"If I have to let go of the helm, I will," said Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin, who added that he intends to sell shares in the coming weeks, speaking to Midi Libre.
"We have already had four or five approaches from potential investors via the bank, Case Cassiopea, which is handling the process. I think by mid-May we should see more clearly and have concrete offers."
The Nicollin family have run the club for more than half a century, Louis from 1974 until his death in 2017, then Laurent. The club could soon come under foreign ownership. Montpellier were relegated last season after 16 straight top-flight seasons, having won the title in 2012.
Nicollin described the previous campaign as "a difficult season on a human level".
He did not rule out multi-club ownership, citing BlueCo at Strasbourg. "When you see the stadium, the presidential stand, the lounges, what we wanted to do, it hits you in the face. I almost cried."
