Despite a brilliant season with Inter and heavily contributing to Argentina’s Copa America triumph, Lautaro Martinez didn’t crack the top five in the Balloon d’Or chart. He finished 7th behind surprise winner Rodri, who pipped Vinicius Junior at the post, and a host of Real Madrid players and Erling Haaland.

Serie A was also represented by Ademola Lookman, who ended up in 14th position, Hakan Calhanoglu (20th), Artem Dovbyk, and Mats Hummels, who shared 29th place. Carlo Ancelotti won the Johan Cruyff Award as the best coach of the past season.

Lautaro Martinez commented on the Balloon d’Or upon handing the Yashin trophy to his compatriot Emiliano Martinez (via Sky).

“It’s a pleasure to be here. We reached important goals with the Argentina and Inter at the club level. It’s an honor to attend this ceremony because we work to win trophies. It’s a team objective and provides daily motivation. My priority is to score. The coaching staff and I often analyze the opposing goalies, but then you have just a fraction of a second to decide. Martinez is a winner and always helps those who reach the national team for the first time. He’s a fantastic person. It’s hard to convert a penalty against him because he fills the goal.”

According to Goal, Lautaro Martinez is the Inter player who finished the highest in the Balloon d’Or standing since Wesley Sneijder won it in 2010. The striker took home the Serie A’s MVP in 2024/2025.
