Lazio have been boosted after a scare over Edoardo Motta’s fitness proved unfounded during the international break.

According to Il Tempo, the 21-year-old sustained only a minor bruise in the win over AC Milan, and his return from Italy Under-21 duty was precautionary, with the keeper viewed as back-up to Frosinone’s Lorenzo Palmisani.

Motta joined in January after Christos Mandas moved to Bournemouth, the Juventus academy graduate arriving on a permanent deal from Reggiana and not expected to feature much.

Ivan Provedel then suffered a serious shoulder injury earlier this month, bringing his campaign to an early end, and Motta stepped in. He helped deliver a three-match winning run and kept successive clean sheets against AC Milan and Bologna.

The goalkeeper was called up at the start of the break and did not feature in the Azzurrini’s 4-0 victory over North Macedonia on Thursday, then returned to Formello the following day due to the knock.

With Provedel sidelined, Motta’s issue caused concern, but he should be available to Maurizio Sarri when Lazio resume after the break. Their next game is at home to Parma on April 4.
