Southampton have reportedly made a concrete offer for RC Strasbourg defender Abakar Sylla who has been on top of Lazio’s shortlist.
In addition to their quest to sign a new midfielder, the Biancocelesti are also in the market for a new centre-back, with Sylla emerging as their primary candidate as of late. The 22-year-old is an Ivory Coast international who recently lost his starting post at Strasbourg, but is still considered a young defender with great potential.
But according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Lazio could miss out on the Ligue 1 star, as Southampton have launched a bid to sign him on loan until the end of the season. Ivan Juric is facing an almost impossible mission to keep the Saints in the Premier League, so the club is looking to bolster his squad with new arrivals.
The transfer market expert confirms the Aquile’s interest in Sylla, but it is Southampton have has made the concrete steps. It is also worth mentioning that Strasbourg share the same owners with Chelsea, while the agents and intermediaries who are working on the player’s transfer to Rome are the same ones who operated on the ill-fated Cesare Casadei deal.
So given how the other transfer saga ended (with Casadei eventually joining Torino following a dramatic soap opera), Sylla’s transfer to Lazio might have become unlikely at this stage.
