Angelo Fabiani delivered a blunt appraisal of Matteo Guendouzi after the midfielder’s departure from Lazio.

According to LaLazioSiamoNoi, he said the question of whether Guendouzi had been replaced was a matter of opinion, adding that the pitch would provide the verdict.

He maintained he had enjoyed a good relationship with Guendouzi but suggested that, once he left, the midfielder was held up as a disciple of Maria Goretti. Internally, he said, the Frenchman was a pain in the backside, prone to sendings off and doing as he pleased.

Fabiani stressed the player chose to depart and that he does not keep anyone who wants out, referencing Alessio Romagnoli.

The comments point to a rupture behind the scenes, indicating admiration for Guendouzi’s talent but far less for his discipline. Lazio now move on without the former Arsenal and Marseille midfielder, with the club viewing the split as unavoidable and, from their perspective, necessary.
