Lazio remain in the hunt to sign Union Berlin centre-back Diogo Leite, who will be a free agent in a few months.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Lazio are continuing to push to close a deal and will resume talks with his representatives, with Lazio considered frontrunners after Leite gave them priority over another non-Serie A suitor, although an agreement still needs to be finalised.

Lazio first moved for the Portuguese centre-back in January, when a sale of Alessio Romagnoli to Al-Sadd was close and a ready-made replacement was required. Both players stayed put, but they are expected to depart in the summer.

Recent progress in negotiations was followed by suggestions the move had stalled, with attention shifting to alternative profiles, particularly young Argentine defenders.

Leite came through Porto’s academy before joining Union Berlin in 2022. Injuries have disrupted his campaign, so he has made 17 Bundesliga appearances.
