The Biancocelesti have been enduring a woeful campaign on all levels, but they’re finally enjoying a purple patch. Maurizio Sarri’s men have put together a three-match winning streak in Serie A after beating Sassuolo thanks to Adam Marusic’s last-gasp winner, upsetting AC Milan with a solitary strike from Gustav Isaksen, and prevailing in Bologna thanks to Kenneth Taylor’s brace.
Lazio’s positive run saw them climb to 8th place in the table, but they still trail behind Atalanta by seven points, so breaking into the European zone remains a tall order. Hence, the club’s best bet to qualify for a UEFA competition remains winning the Coppa Italia.
The Aquile registered a 2-2 draw against La Dea in the first leg of the semi-final, while the return leg will be played in Bergamo on April 22.
This season, the Croaciati have been blowing hot and cold under Carlos Cuesta. They lost their last two outings against Torino and the struggling Cremonese, extending their winless run to four games. This negative streak came on the back of a superb February run that saw them beat their Emilian rivals Bologna, Hellas Verona, and most importantly, AC Milan at San Siro.
Parma have thus positioned themselves 12th in the table after garnering 34 points from 30 rounds, so they are apparently on the right path towards avoiding relegation, which remains the club’s most realistic objective.
Lazio (4-3-3): Motta; Marusic, Romagnoli, Provstgaard, Tavares; Dele-Bashiru, Cataldi, Taylor; Isaksen, Maldini, Pedro.
Parma (3-5-2): Suzuki; Delprato, Circati, Valenti; Britschgi, Ondrejka, Keita, Sorensen, Valeri; Strefezza, Pellegrino.
Lazio’s backline will have to deal with Pellegrino’s aerial threat, likely without Mario Gila, which could be a daunting task. Nevertheless, Sarri’s men should have the upper hand in the middle of the park, especially with Taylor firing on all cylinders recently.
Tijjani Noslin and Boulaye Dia could start on the bench again, but they could make all the difference following their introduction in the second half, perhaps scoring or creating the winner.
