The 28th round of Serie A will conclude with a mid-table meeting between Lazio and Sassuolo at a virtually empty stadium.
The Serie A clash between Lazio and Sassuolo kicks off at 21:45 local time on Monday, March 9, at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Since beating Genoa at the end of January, Lazio have been enduring a miserable slump in Serie A. In their last four meetings, they squandered a healthy two-goal lead against Juventus to settle for a point, before being beaten by Atalanta at home. Afterwards, they collected a point in Sardiania following an uneventful affair with Cagliari, and then began March with a 0-2 defeat to Torino.
This poor run saw the Biancocelesti regress to the second half of the table, currently sitting 11th with only 34 points in the bag. Maurizio Sarri’s men are almost exclusively focused on the Coppa Italia at this stage, so at least they managed to produce an improved display in the first leg of the semi-final, registering a 2-2 draw against Atalanta.
Sassuolo might not be your traditional newly-promoted team, as we’re talking about a club that was a force to be reckoned with in the top flight not so long ago. The Emilians suffered an inexplicable relegation in 2023/24, but swiftly rectified the situation by earning a swift promotion after torching the competition in Serie B.
And yet, what Fabio Grosso and his men have thus far achieved remains remarkable, as the Neroverdi currently sit 9th in the table, and have gathered four more points than Lazio.
After suffering an agonising 0-5 humbling to Inter Milan in early February, Sassuolo rebounded with a win in Udine, before making short work of Hellas Verona, and most recently, registering an upset win over Atalanta, despite being reduced to 10 men just 16 minutes into the contest.
Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Marusic, Gila, Romagnoli, Nuno Tavares; Dele-Bashiru, Cataldi, Taylor; Isaksen, Maldini, Zaccagni.
Sassuolo (4-3-3): Muric; Walukiewicz, Idzes, Muharemovic, Doig; Konè, Matic, Thorstvedt; Berardi, Nzola, Laurientè.
Lazio put so much effort into the Coppa Italia clash against Atalanta, but five days should be sufficient for Sarri’s men to restore their energy.
The Biancocelesti appeared to have found their rhythm in midweek following a woeful showing in Torino. So if they can avoid replicating the defensive mistakes they made against Atalanta, they are capable of beating a potentially overconfident Sassuolo, who could leave spaces at the back.
