Lazio weighing up late move for Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof | OneFootball

Lazio are weighing up a swoop for Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof, according to reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Lindelof is believed to be a player United have been open to selling this summer but a transfer has yet to materialise.

The Sweden international has not trained in more than three weeks due to a toe injury. He missed both of United’s Premier League fixtures against Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Lindelof played only two halves during pre-season.

In the past few weeks, the 30-year-old has been linked to Fiorentina, Eintracht Frankfurt and even the Saudi Pro League.

Di Marzio now reports that the United star is on the radar of Lazio, who are on the hunt for defensive reinforcements ahead of deadline day on Friday, 30 August.

“In these last days of the transfer market, Lazio is trying to further strengthen its squad.”

“For the defensive department of Marco Baroni’s team, they are thinking of Manchester United ‘s Lindelof.”

Earlier on Tuesday, The Manchester Evening News claimed that Lindelof will be used as cover in the full-back positions in case he fails to get a move this summer.

Amidst a crisis in the left-back department occasioned by the respective absences of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Lindelof is seen as someone who could provide a stop-gap solution.

Last term, the United No.2 started at left-back on six occasions. The Red Devils lost three of these six matches.

Across all competitions, Lindelof made 28 appearances, helping United keep nine clean sheets in the process. He scored one goal and provided one assist.
