Leeds fans endured a rollercoaster as Thomas Tuchel’s side came from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 in the World Cup round of 32. Harry Kane delivered both goals after the break.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, England survived an almighty scare against the unfancied opposition as emotions swung throughout the night.

A decade on from the humiliating Euros exit to Iceland, history threatened to repeat when Brian Cipenga struck early for DR Congo.

England laboured for long spells and repeatedly found Lionel Mpasi in inspired form. They kept their composure, and at times their luck held, before Kane turned it around.

Sam Matthews said: “It’s a good job we have Harry Kane, otherwise we’d be in the plane home!”

Janet Stockton said: “Can’t take anything away from DR Congo they played really well. England finally got there in the end, phew.”

Lyndsey Rowson added: “Great fight, they never gave up - get in lads.”

Scenes from the Beck and Call pub in Meanwood were captured throughout the match, with a gallery of the best moments. England’s win sets up a clash with co-hosts Mexico in the early hours of Monday morning.
