Leeds United winger Noah Okafor, named in Switzerland’s World Cup squad, will miss today’s 1.30pm friendly against Jordan because of a calf problem. The Swiss federation said on Saturday that Murat Yakin is not concerned about his long-term availability.
Okafor earned a recall in March on the back of strong club form. He was an unused substitute in the 4-3 defeat to Germany, then left out of the matchday squad for the goalless draw in Norway.
He finished the campaign in fine touch before suffering the calf injury that ruled him out of Leeds’ final three Premier League fixtures.
Despite that setback, he was included in Yakin’s group for this summer’s World Cup. Switzerland face Jordan today and Austria next week in their final warm-ups.
For the Jordan match, Gregor Kobel is being rested after flu, so Yvon Mvogo starts, with a plan for third-choice Marvin Keller to come on at half-time for a debut. Midfielder Fabian Rieder is also unavailable after an ankle injury sustained in training on Wednesday.
