Anton Stach was forced off in the first half of Leeds United’s FA Cup tie at West Ham with an apparent ankle problem. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the midfielder departed after treatment and was replaced before the interval.
The German was played in by Noah Okafor on a swift counter and saw his effort saved by Alphonse Areola. As Max Kilman stretched to block, he went through Stach, and the Leeds man’s right ankle appeared to roll on impact. He received on-pitch attention and then limped around the perimeter.
Stach tried to continue but substitute Brenden Aaronson was already preparing. The American came on minutes later, with the six-foot-four midfielder still in visible discomfort.
Stach had been a pre-match doubt after reporting a hip issue in training. He was on Germany duty across the past fortnight and only featured off the bench once, against Switzerland.
Leeds controlled much of the opening period in London, and Ao Tanaka capped a slick move with a deflected finish on 26 minutes. They were ahead when Stach sustained the injury.
Leeds were already missing Gabriel Gudmundsson and Daniel James from the matchday squad. James is expected to be out for a couple of weeks with an adductor strain, while Gudmundsson was not risked due to a minor groin issue.
