Leeds United will honour club great Mick Jones with a Lifetime Achievement Award and he will become the first former player to receive a Leeds United Heritage Cap at half-time on Saturday night. The club said in a statement that the ceremony will take place during the Premier League game against Brentford at Elland Road.

Jones will be welcomed on to the pitch with his family and supporters have been asked to remain in their seats at the interval to pay tribute.

A key figure under Don Revie, Jones scored the winner in the 1968 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final, the club’s first major European honour. He also helped deliver league titles in 1968/69 and 1973/74, finishing as Leeds’ top scorer in both seasons.

His medal haul includes the 1969 Charity Shield, a second Fairs Cup in 1971 and the 1972 FA Cup, when he set up Allan Clarke’s decisive goal.

From 1967-1975 he made 312 appearances for Leeds, scoring 111 goals, and earned three England caps.

Jones’ cap is part of Marching on Forever, the former players association launched in late 2025 to honour past contributions with specially made Heritage Caps. Led by Tony Dorigo, the group aims to connect generations of ex-players and celebrate the club’s history.
