The Whites are sailing close to the wind regarding profitability and sustainability rules, but they may not encounter issues.

Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear has revealed that he doesn't expect the club to encounter any issues regarding Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Kinnear made these comments in the Supporter Advisory Board meeting, with the Whites' key figure admitting at the same time that the club were sailing close to the wind regarding these rules.

The West Yorkshire side retained a decent chunk of their squad last year, ahead of their first season back in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League.

Not only did they retain plenty of their players, but they also added plenty of quality to their squad and this nearly paid dividends for them last term, only missing out on promotion due to their play-off final loss against Southampton.

This loss against the Saints was a crucial moment for them, because they needed to balance the books following that loss, and they ended up selling quite a few key first-teamers.

Crysencio Summerville, who scored 21 goals in all competitions for the West Yorkshire outfit last term, was one key player who departed, along with Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter.

Leeds didn't even want to sell Rutter, but with a clause in his contract being triggered, that allowed Brighton and Hove Albion to get a deal over the line for him.

However, this sale could be crucial in ensuring the Whites abide by profitability and sustainability rules in the coming years, especially with the club being active in the transfer market during the summer window and bringing in replacements for some of those who departed.

Angus Kinnear reveals Leeds United financial update

Kinnear spoke to the club's Supporter Advisory Board last month, but the minutes for the meeting have only just been released.

In those minutes, it was revealed that the club are still close to PSR limits at this stage.

Kinnear also noted that the EFL can place embargoes and sanctions on the club if they aren't on course to stay within the limits.

But he isn't expecting the club to encounter any issues - and that could mean that the Whites may be able to continue trading freely in the future.

Leeds United need to keep tabs on their financial situation

Leeds need to be able to trade freely in the future to give themselves a real chance of success.

It would have been easy for them not to have sold players and to have breached financial rules, hoping that they'd have enough quality to go up and potentially mitigate the severity of the punishment they faced.

However, they took the tough decisions they should have done and even though some key players were sold, they still have a good chance of securing a top-tier return at the second time of asking.

Doing fairly well during the early stages of this season, they should only get stronger, with their summer additions only likely to get better.
