Leeds United will honour Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight at Elland Road during this weekend’s game with Brentford, with further commemorations planned around the 26th anniversary at West Ham United.
The club said in a statement that Saturday’s Premier League match will feature a minute of applause before kick-off and a big-screen tribute in the 26th minute. Family members of Chris and Kev will attend, the captains will lay wreaths by the dugouts, and chairman Paraag Marathe and managing director Robbie Evans will place wreaths at the East Stand plaque.
On Sunday 5 April, Leeds visit West Ham United in the FA Cup quarter-final at the London Stadium, 4:30pm. The clubs are in positive dialogue to arrange two wreaths to be laid in front of the away end before kick-off.
The pair were murdered in Istanbul on 5 April 2000 after travelling to support Leeds in Europe. It has become customary to pay respects at fixtures close to the anniversary, with banners displayed and supporters turning their backs as during the Galatasaray match 26 years ago.
Last year, Leeds fans turned their backs in remembrance during the game against Hull City.
