Leeds United expect elements of their summer business to be shaped by the World Cup, and have dismissed talk of an early move for Hidemasa Morita.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds are not pursuing the Japan international, despite reports suggesting advanced talks or a near-complete deal. Morita is nearing the end of his Sporting contract and has made 163 appearances, including Champions League and Europa League outings.
The 30-year-old has neither been scouted nor retained as a target, with his age and profile not matching what Leeds are seeking.
Recruitment staff are compiling lists and profiling potential targets, but suggestions that completed deals are imminent should be taken with a pinch of salt. Three games remain in the Premier League and top-flight status is not yet mathematically secure.
The transfer window opens in five weeks, and this summer may drag on because of the World Cup. Many deals, not only at Leeds, are likely to be completed after the tournament.
