Leeds United's penalty shoot-out win at West Ham United is already being hailed as an FA Cup classic. According to Leeds Live, a row over the end chosen for the shoot-out, a near three-hour runtime and home fans trying to return all fed the drama.
Leeds led after Ao Tanaka struck before the break, then Dominic Calvert-Lewin made it 2-0 from the spot on 75 minutes. West Ham hit back in 11 minutes of stoppage time through Mateus Fernandes on 93 and Axel Disasi on 96 to force extra time.
In the added half-hour, Taty Castellanos and Pablo saw efforts ruled out for offside by VAR and Leeds had two shots cleared off the line. With penalties looming, Alphonse Areola was injured and debutant Finlay Herrick came on.
Lucas Perri saved from Jarrod Bowen and Pablo in the shoot-out, then Pascal Struijk clinched it to book a Wembley semi-final with Chelsea, Leeds' first in 39 years.
BBC Sport highlighted the 9,000 travelling support and said Leeds were largely in control. The Mirror noted Danny Dyer's animated presence and reported injuries to Anton Stach, Joe Rodon and Noah Okafor.
The Guardian called Perri the decisive figure and evoked memories of the combative 1970 final with Chelsea. Sky Sports underlined Areola's late setback and said attention now turns to West Ham at Wolves on Friday, and Leeds at Manchester United on Monday.
