Leeds United’s first home match of the 2026/27 season will now be played on the August Bank Holiday Sunday, coinciding with the final day of Leeds Festival. Both of the club’s early Elland Road dates have shifted after TV selections.

West Yorkshire Police said it is highly experienced in managing major events and has plans in place for a busy August Bank Holiday, which also includes the Leeds West Indian Carnival. It added that each event has its own security arrangements, with an appropriate policing operation to support them.

Leeds will host Brentford in their second game of the campaign at 2pm on Sunday, August 30, instead of Saturday, August 29. The switch means the opener falls on the festival’s finale at Bramham Park.

The Brentford match is part of a 2pm Sky Sports triple header alongside Chelsea v Brighton and Sunderland v Fulham.

The home fixture against Newcastle United is now set for 8pm on Monday, September 14. The date and time could still change again.

Significant traffic delays are expected across the weekend as festivalgoers travel to and from Bramham Park, particularly on the A1(M) and A64.
