Leeds United will relocate and repaint a mural at Elland Road as preparatory works for the stadium’s redevelopment get under way.
The club said in a statement that artist Nicolas Dixon has been recommissioned to carry out the project in full. Work on a new security hub will start from Wednesday March 25, and the club thanked the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust for its cooperation.
Planning permission for a new West Stand was granted in January, and the proposals affect the mural installed in 2022.
The artwork sits on the north east corner and commemorates the 1972 FA Cup win, featuring manager Don Revie, trainer and coach Les Cocker and a host of now-iconic players.
Dixon originally hand painted an abstract design, commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust, using original portraits designed by fellow artist Paul Trevillion.
That wall will become the site of that facility, with the current hub to be demolished, and the need for outward kiosk windows requires the mural’s relocation.
