Leeds United have moved to block interest in Sebastiaan Bornauw amid Bundesliga attention, with Mainz among the clubs exploring a deal. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, speaking on its Inside Elland Road podcast, the club are not minded to part with a centre-back before Monday’s 7pm deadline.

The January window has brought only two exits so far. Jack Harrison has joined Serie A strugglers Fiorentina on loan for the rest of the season, a move that could become permanent, while 17-year-old striker Harry Gray has gone to League One side Rotherham United and scored his first senior goal in midweek against Northampton Town.

Bornauw arrived from Wolfsburg in the summer on a cut-price deal. The Belgium international, capped four times, has found minutes hard to come by, recording just three Premier League starts, all within the last month, which hints at a more involved role.

Joel Piroe has attracted interest, with Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough mentioned as possible destinations. However, with Whites target Jorgen Strand Larsen close to joining Crystal Palace, Piroe is increasingly likely to remain at Elland Road until the end of the season.

Leeds have largely focused on strengthening Daniel Farke’s squad as the window enters its final days.
