Leeds United tie Jayden Lienou to three-year deal before United States tour with first team | OneFootball

Leeds United have secured 18-year-old defender Jayden Lienou on a new contract ahead of the club’s United States pre-season tour.

The club said in a statement that he has agreed a three-year deal running to 2029 after an impressive first season with Scott Gardner’s Under-21s, in which he made 26 appearances and gained senior experience in the EFL Trophy and National League Cup.

Lienou joined from Manchester City last summer and was promoted to Daniel Farke’s bench for late-season games against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion after an injury to first-choice left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson.

Capped by Wales at Under-19 level, he was called up by Craig Bellamy for the post-season camp and friendlies with Ghana and Romania, drawing strong praise, and he was an unused substitute against Ghana.

The teenager has trained with the first team throughout pre-season and is expected to fly to the United States today. Farke has highlighted the need for more left-footed options, with Gudmundsson the only natural senior left-back. After Pascal Struijk’s departure, £34m signing Tarik Muharemovic is set to operate at left-sided centre-back, and Leeds are expected to explore left-back options in this window.
