Leeds United will hold another round of talks with Ethan Ampadu’s representatives before the end of this week, according to The Athletic.
Manager Daniel Farke is preparing for a big summer. The club will look to make quality additions to their squad and also hand new deals to some of their key players.
Ampadu’s current contract expires at the end of next season, but Leeds have the option to extend it by another year to June 2028.
Talks have been ongoing with the 25-year-old’s camp, and they are expected to advance in the coming days.
Leeds want to hand their captain a new deal after the key role he played in keeping them up. Ampadu has played 33 league games and made five FA Cup appearances this term.
He has played more than any other Leeds player in the Premier League this term, and it only makes sense to reward him with a new and improved contract.
The Wales international has proven himself in the English top-flight, and other clubs are monitoring his situation.
Suitors would have been drafting up summer plans when Leeds were in a relegation battle, but they plan to hold on to their skipper.
The onus is now on the club to match his ambitions by signing players capable of challenging for a top-half-of-the-table finish.
They wanted to sign Fulham attacker Harry Wilson last summer and were very close to getting a deal done on transfer deadline day.
However, the Craven Cottage club refused to sell him. He has weighed in with ten goals and six assists in 34 league games this season.
