Leeds United’s midfield could change this summer as Daniel Farke seeks to build on an impressive 2025/26. Strengthening might require a sale, though other, more profitable but tougher routes could be explored.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Elland Road recruitment staff hold interest in Southampton’s young midfielder Shea Charles and are assessing other targets. Midfield remains relatively well stocked, with five core options last season, and Brenden Aaronson also filled in centrally. One free agent is being considered and another looks virtually through the door.
Ethan Ampadu stays. The captain signed a new four-year deal earlier this summer, and the midfield can be built around him. Ilia Gruev also stays, offering natural cover.
Charlie Crew could head out on loan again. His Doncaster Rovers spell did not work out, and at 20 another temporary move might suit his development.
Anton Stach is a keep after an outstanding debut season in West Yorkshire. With more games, Leeds will hope the German can kick on further.
Ao Tanaka is a potential sale if the right offer lands, allowing profit on a £3m signing. He was in and out last season, and a new midfielder is clearly wanted.
Sean Longstaff is also a keep. There is a scenario where Leeds repeat the Glen Kamara trick and bank a quick profit, but his vast Premier League experience and Stach-like energy make him valuable.
