Leeds United’s Sean Longstaff has paid tribute to Kevin Keegan following the former England captain and manager’s death at 75. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Keegan’s family announced on Monday that he died surrounded by his wife and daughters, having revealed in June that he had stage four cancer.

Messages arrived from across the world for Keegan, a Ballon d’Or winner in 1978 and 1979. Adored at each of his former clubs, he is most closely associated with Newcastle, whom he both played for and later managed.

Newcastle described him as among the club’s most iconic, influential and deeply loved figures. On X, Longstaff called Keegan a legend who did so much for @nufc and said he would be missed.

Leeds also offered condolences, noting Keegan’s notable moments against the Whites. He was a leading figure in a 1970s Liverpool side that frequently contested domestic and European honours with Don Revie’s team.

Keegan’s family described him as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and thanked his medical team for their support. They asked for space and privacy at a difficult time.
