The summer transfer window opens today, but early Leeds United activity may be limited with the World Cup likely to slow trading.

According to Leeds Live, Leeds were not far advanced on incomings last week, though targets are lined up. The 49ers envisage Daniel Farke staying beyond this season and plan renewal talks at the right time.

Goalkeeping is a priority. Talks continue with Karl Darlow and Alex Cairns, and Leeds will scan the market for another option.

If Darlow leaves when his deal ends in July amid Premier League links, a replacement will be essential. Lucas Perri, demoted in January, may also be assessed.

Up front, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored 15 last season, needs stronger support. Lukas Nmecha managed seven, but the drop-off was clear when he started.

Shape, back three or back four, will steer recruitment, yet a number 10 who can operate wide is needed. Facundo Buonanotte’s loan failed, but that profile remains.

Harry Wilson agreed terms on deadline day before Fulham withdrew last summer and is now a free agent after 10 goals and seven assists, though competition is likely. Fewer additions than last year’s 10 are expected, with quality prioritised.

A left-footed back-up left-back and centre-back depth are on the list. Decisions loom on Pascal Struijk, now into his final year, while Ilia Gruev and Brenden Aaronson face similar calls, Joel Piroe is expected to be sold, and Ethan Ampadu has signed for four more years.

Chairman Paraag Marathe has flagged sales alongside arrivals, with new Squad Cost Ratio rules from July limiting spend to up to 85% of revenue. He called the approach strategic and disciplined and targeted stability over the next two seasons.

Patience will be needed. Business may be slower than last year, but it can still be productive.
