Left-back shines for Corinthians with most minutes early in the 2026 season

Corinthians ended the 2025 season on December 21st and, on January 3rd, returned to the Dr. Joaquim Grava Training Center to begin preparations for the 2026 season, with their debut scheduled for eight days later. Since then, the Parque São Jorge club has played 11 matches, with six wins, two draws, and three losses – scoring 15 goals and conceding eight.

So far, the outfield player with the most minutes for Corinthians is left-back Matheus Bidu, with 796 minutes played this season, which averages nearly 80 minutes per game. The number 21, alongside goalkeeper Hugo Souza, right-back Matheuzinho, and midfielder Vitinho, are the players with the most appearances for Corinthians this year (10). The data is from Meu Timão.

In terms of minutes played, Matheuzinho comes right after Matheus Bidu, with 692 minutes so far in 2026. Next are Vitinho (460 minutes), Yuri Alberto (597 minutes in nine matches), and midfielder André, with 629 minutes on the pitch in eight games. It's worth noting that Bidu's competitor on the left side is Hugo Farias, who recently injured his knee ligament and is expected to be out for up to six months.

Left-back Fabrizio Angileri, meanwhile, had his contract renewal with Corinthians announced only last week and, as a result, has not yet played this season – something that should happen in the coming weeks. Matheus Bidu is experiencing his best moment in a Corinthians shirt, especially under Dorival Júnior, who was hired at the end of April 2025, when he achieved a consistency he hadn't had before, as well as defensive solidity.

After struggling to establish himself in 2023 – the year he was signed from Guarani after standing out on loan to Cruzeiro in Serie B (2022) – and spending part of 2024 training separately from the squad, he took part in the team's turnaround in that year's Brasileirão (from the relegation zone to the 2025 Pre-Libertadores), was part of the squad that won the 2025 Paulista Championship, and was a starter in the 2025 Copa do Brasil victory against Vasco and in the Supercopa do Brasil win over Flamengo in Brasília.

In total, wearing the Corinthians shirt, he has nine goals and nine assists in 131 matches for the club (104 as a starter), with 62 wins, 30 draws, and 39 losses – a 54.96% success rate. Corinthians is now preparing to return to the pitch next Thursday (19th), at Ligga Arena, at 7:30 PM (Brasília time), in a postponed match from the second round of the 2026 Brazilian Championship. The Alvinegro will visit Athletico-PR.
