Leicester City owners ‘explore sale’ after 16 years in charge | OneFootball

Leicester City's owners King Power are reported to be exploring a sale of the club after 16 years in charge.

The Financial Times reports that King Power have contacted investment bankers at Citigroup to sound out potential buyers. The club has not commented.

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha took control in 2010 with City mid-table in the Championship. They returned to the Premier League in 2014 and won the title in 2016 under Claudio Ranieri.

That squad, featuring Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante, reached the Champions League quarter-finals the following season. In 2018 Vichai died in a helicopter crash outside the stadium, after which his son Aiyawatt assumed control.

City finished fifth in 2020 and 2021 and lifted the FA Cup for the first time in their history. Relegation followed in 2023, before promotion the next season under Enzo Maresca.

Accounts this year showed a £71.1m loss for the 2024-25 Premier League campaign, while £124m of shareholder loans were converted to equity last year. The club have moved into a multi-million-pound training base at Seagrave and had explored expanding the stadium, plans that were put on hold after relegation. King Power’s duty-free business has also been hit by reduced visitor numbers to Thailand since the pandemic, especially from China.
