Leicester City have posted a £71.1m loss for 2024-25, their third highest recent deficit, after Premier League spending failed to deliver and relegation followed.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the figure is not expected to trigger Profit and Sustainability Rules issues, with a compliant submission filed for the season.

City were docked six points for exceeding the loss limit across the three financial years to 2024. They recorded a PSR loss of £63.8m in 2023, then a £6.1m PSR profit in 2024. With addbacks, they can register a £25.3m PSR loss in these 2025-ending accounts and still meet the £83m three-year threshold.

The statutory loss, up from £19.4m a year earlier, was driven by squad costs, including a £66.7m net transfer spend after the arrivals of Abdul Fatawu, Oliver Skipp and Bilal El Khannouss.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s sale to Chelsea completed before 30 June so fell into the prior year, leaving profits on player sales at £7.3m, down from £71.8m in 2024, with most coming from Tom Cannon’s January move to Sheffield United.

Since the period covered, exits have generated a £40.9m net profit that will be recognised in the 2025-26 accounts.

A season back in the top flight lifted revenue to £186.5m from £105.3m in the Championship, mainly through higher broadcasting and sponsorship income.

Staff costs rose, with wages up £45.7m to £152.9m, still below the £206m of their previous Premier League campaign. The wage-to-turnover ratio is 82 per cent, the club’s lowest since 2018 after two years above 100 per cent.
