Leicester City are set to miss out on Hull City striker Mason Burstow, with the 22-year-old in talks over a season-long loan to League One rivals Sheffield Wednesday. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, discussions are ongoing.

Head coach Russell Martin has made recruiting a centre-forward a priority before the 2026/27 League One campaign begins. City currently have no senior natural number nine, with 19-year-old Kirsten Otchere used in pre-season, and have so far added only Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy.

Burstow had been loosely under consideration by City. The former Chelsea youngster scored 12 goals on loan at Bolton Wanderers last season, helping them win promotion to the Championship.

He is with Hull in Slovenia for pre-season, but a move to Hillsborough is close. As first reported by the Sheffield Star, the switch would bolster Henrik Pedersen’s attack. Hull Live reports that Burstow will return to England on Wednesday to complete the formalities.

Wednesday have rebuilt quickly, signing Millwall pair Billy Mitchell and Barry Bannan, plus Callum Slattery, Louie Barry, Sil Swinkels and Joe Lumley.

Leicester continue to assess options, with Dom Ballard, Elijah Adebayo and Davis Keillor-Dunn under consideration. “The topline, both wide positions and a number nine, I think it’s really clear,” Martin said. “So the top line right now, we need to strengthen that and add to that and we will, but it has to be the right ones,” he told LeicestershireLive.
