According to The Sun, Leicester City will compete with Championship sides for Plymouth striker Lorent Tolaj this summer. A striker is expected to be City’s top priority as they seek a proven finisher to get out of League One at the first attempt.

The Swiss forward has scored 20 goals in 34 games in all competitions since joining Plymouth last August, and he is fourth in the League One scoring charts.

His form has drawn interest from higher up, with Sheffield United and Preston tracking the 24-year-old. Celtic have also been linked previously.

Earlier this week, Plymouth manager and former City loanee Tom Cleverley said any buyer would face a significant fee. He noted Tolaj has not asked to leave and that his work-rate, competitive spirit and goals reflect how much he enjoys playing for Argyle.

Tolaj moved from Switzerland to join Brighton at 16 but did not make a first-team breakthrough, and loan spells failed to take off. A permanent switch to Aldershot in the National League brought 25 goals and a move to Port Vale. He then scored 15 to help Vale win League Two promotion last season before switching to Plymouth, where the scoring has continued.

City will go into the summer without any senior strikers, with Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka both out of contract and set to leave the club.
