Manchester United defender Leny Yoro impressed with a dominant performance as his side cruised to a 2-0 victory over Sunderland.
United got back to winning ways as they comfortably eased past Sunderland at Old Trafford.
The game was a must-win for head coach Ruben Amorim, who has been under immense pressure amidst the club’s woeful start to the season.
United broke the deadlock after just eight minutes through Mason Mount. A well-timed partnership between Amad and Bryan Mbeumo set up a ball for Mount, who deftly controlled it and fired home.
It didn’t take long for United to double their advantage, this time as striker Benjamin Sesko produced the lightest of finishes inside a crowded box. The two first-half goals were all United needed to secure their second victory of the Premier League season.
The victory has propelled Amorim’s men to eighth place in the Premier League table.
Several United players were up for the occasion, including Yoro, who was restored to the starting XI after being dropped for the last two games.
During the time he was on the pitch before being taken off for Maguire late on, Yoro touched the ball 64 times in what was an all-action display.
Yoro won 100% of the ground duels he delved into and 100% of the tackles he put in. He completed 80% of his passes, four of which advanced into the attacking third.
The Frenchman made three clearances and two interceptions.
He did all of that without giving away a foul, highlighting the quality of his display. Yoro’s most memorable impact arguably came in the build-up to the second goal.
The teenager demonstrated great resilience to run forward and win a throw-in, from which United scored and extended their lead.
