Leonardo Jardim expected in Rio on Tuesday as Flamengo dismiss Filipe Luís | OneFootball

Flamengo dismissed head coach Filipe Luís in the early hours of Tuesday, with Leonardo Jardim the leading candidate to replace him.

According to Uol Esporte, Jardim returned to Brazil on Monday 02, held talks with the Flamengo board in the afternoon, leaving an agreement well advanced, though he remains in Belo Horizonte.

He travelled to Belo Horizonte to attend the wedding of Pedrinho’s daughter, the Cruzeiro owner, which takes place on Friday 06. Flamengo expect him to land in Rio on Tuesday.

Members of Jardim’s staff are already in Rio, where he is expected to sign. The club want a two-year deal.

He was sounded out by the board in December during the renewal impasse with the former coach.

He managed Cruzeiro in 2025, overseeing 55 matches, with 25 wins, 18 draws and 12 defeats, a 56% return.

Filipe Luís addressed the media as usual after Flamengo’s rout of Madureira at the Maracanã on Monday 02, even looking ahead to the Carioca final. The order came from club president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, who phoned sporting director José Boto. Boto informed Filipe Luís, then Flamengo issued an official statement, with the technical staff changing from Tuesday 03.
