Leonardo Jardim ‘to give the green light’ for Flamengo to sell Gonzalo Plata | OneFootball

With the domestic calendar paused for the FIFA window, Gonzalo Plata’s future at Flamengo is in flux, and ESPN reports that Leonardo Jardim and his staff have authorised the club to negotiate his sale.

The approval concerns a potential mid-year move, after the World Cup, and depends on Flamengo signing another forward before any exit.

The club are already working to recruit an attacker with attributes similar to Plata, seeking to reinforce the frontline before it is weakened.

Plata has faced disciplinary issues at Flamengo. Since Jardim’s arrival, he was omitted from the last match against Corinthians on Sunday 22.

Jardim has said the winger is struggling to integrate, and that the team need concentration, attitude and strong physical effort to fight for results.

Plata is currently on Ecuador duty for the March window. Ecuador face Morocco on Friday 27, then the Netherlands on Tuesday 31.
