Against a well-organised Parisian side defensively, the Rouge et Blanc were unable to find an opening and were caught out at the start of the second period (0-1).

Facing Paris FC in Matchday 11 of Ligue 1, AS Monaco’s players lacked a finishing touch and lost 1-0 despite dominating the game. The match was played at the Stade Louis-II in the presence of President Dmitry Rybolovlev. Recap.

Having had a perfect week so far with two victories against Toulouse (1-0) and then Nantes (3-5), AS Monaco’s players were aiming for a third consecutive win to consolidate their place on the podium. They would face Paris FC this Saturday, newly promoted and currently 12th in the league, they will also try to emphasize the fact that the Rouge et Blanc had won 83.3% of their matches against them in all competitions (5/6).

At the start of this 11th matchday of Ligue 1, Sébastien Pocognoli maintained a 3-4-3 formation with Caio Henrique returning to left-sided center-back. Aleksandr Golovin, who scored twice against Nantes, also returned to the starting eleven, supporting Mika Biereth and Maghnes Akliouche in attack. Moments later, a close-range header from Mohammed Salisu was kept out by Kevin Trapp (10′), and then a long-range effort from our midfielder was off-target (14′).

The Rouge et Blanc were dominating, although Pierre Lees-Melou’s long-range effort went wide (15′). They then came close to opening the scoring through Krépin Diatta, whose curling shot came close to finding the top corner (22′). The Senegalese international was thus unlucky, as was Jean-Philippe Krasso, who fortunately hit the post (31′). At halftime, the two teams were level.

In an attempt to make a difference, Sébastien Pocognoli made a double substitution with the introduction of Stanis Idumbo and Folarin Balogun (46′). Unfortunately, it was PFC who opened the scoring through Moses Simon from six yards out (0-1, 53′). Monaco responded, but Maghnes Akliouche’s shot was saved by Kevin Trapp (58′), one of his last touches before he was replaced by Takumi Minamino, who came on alongside Ansu Fati (61′).

And the Spanish striker came close to equalizing, but his shot was saved by the Parisian goalkeeper, as was Mohammed Salisu’s header just before (73′). The Rouge et Blanc tried to get back into the game and relied heavily on crosses. On one of these, Taki was on hand to meet the ball but his shot went wide (96′).

That was the last chance of the match, and AS Monaco had to concede by the narrowest of margins against Paris FC (0-1). But there will be no time to dwell on it, as…a trip to face Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League is set for Tuesday (21:00) where the goal will be to bounce back quickly.
