Let the Bundesliga begin!

It all starts in Ried

ADMIRAL Bundesliga football is back this weekend! Our new season starts on Saturday evening, 2 August at 19:30 CEST. We have a short away trip to start with as we aim for three points at newly promoted SV Ried.

After finishing as runners-up for two successive years, we are determined to take the league title back to Salzburg this time. That won't be easy, with reigning champions Sturm Graz and the rest of the chasing pack in no mood to give up ground. Our pre-season was an unusual one with nothing in the way of our typical training camps, but our boys instead making an appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup and claiming a very decent four points. We barely had time to step feet back in Austria before our first qualifying round in the UEFA Champions League saw us see off Norwegian runners-up SK Brann 5-2 on aggregate.

We are therefore well in the rhythm of playing before we start the league on Saturday. The Vikings of Ried may have slipped to a defeat against Amstetten in their final friendly (2-3) but bounced back with a 5-0 win in the ÖFB Cup against Parndorf. With the buzz of their recent promotion behind them along with their fans, Maximilian Senft's side will be looking to give us a test to start the season with.

Our boys can, of course, rely on some great away support again at their Bundesliga opener in Ried. Anyone who wants to follow our team in the nearby BWT Oberösterreichische Arena can find everything they need to know for the away trip below. You can also follow the clash on Sky Sport Austria along with our live text updates.

Don't forget: a week later we have our big season-opening clash at our Red Bull Arena. You can read HERE about all the goings on around the GAK match.

We are starting the Bundesliga season by facing a newly promoted team that will have a packed stadium with plenty of fans. We're expecting a very heated atmosphere and a team that will certainly give their all from the first minute. I know Ried coach Max Senft very well - we worked together at Austria Vienna, and I know he always has exciting ideas. We have to be prepared for that. It will definitely be a challenge, because there are easier tasks than playing away against a newly promoted team. We're looking forward to it though. It makes it all the more important for us to recover well now, see who's ready for the game, and then find the right mix.

It won't an easy task for us, as we know how motivated and aggressive newly promoted teams can be, especially at the start of a season. We progressed in the Champions League qualifiers during the week, which gave us confidence but also took a bit of a toll. We need to use the days leading up to the game to recover as best we can, so we're fresh and just as determined and ready for Ried.
